Traces of an Old Vineyard
Mahsa Vahdat
CD Rel Date: 1985-08-07
As a tribute to a defiant and rich heritage and a world of beauty with unknown depth, the celebrated Iranian singer Mahsa Vahdat releases here first solo album - Traces of an Old Vineyard. After six collaborative albums that have paired her with sister Marjan Vahdat, American soul-bluesman Mighty Sam McClain, and Norwegian choir SKRUK, Mahsa Vahdat finally steps into the spotlight. Traces of an Old Vineyard features her newly written melodies to poems about life and love from classical Iranian poets like Khayyam, Hafez, and Rumi. Accompanying Mahsa and blending contemporary instrumental and jazz are Tord Gustavsen on piano and keyboards, Shervin Mohajer on the Persian string instrument kamancheh, and Ali Rahimi on percussion. The album was recorded at the St. James Church of Culture in Oslo, Norway by sound engineer Martin Abrahamsen and producer Erik Hillestad.
