Those who have enjoyed Sarah McLachlan's Lillith Fair festivals should make a point of exploring Silverwolf's The Women of Kerrville series, which focuses on live performances by female singer/songwriters at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, TX. Recorded mostly at the 1995 Kerrville Festival, Vol. 1 opts for diversity and ranges from the gentle acoustic folk-pop of Dar Williams' "Christians and Pagans," Vicki Pratt Keating's "N.Y. 10/11/91," Eliza Gilkyson's "Her Melancholy Museb" and Jana Stanfield's "If I Had Only Known" to the more robust folk-rock-country of Caroline Aiken's "Haul Off and Kiss Me" and Lynn Miles' "I Always Told You the Truth." The Philadelphia-based Susan Werner combines folk, pop, and jazz on "Much at All," while Tish Hinojosa celebrates her Mexican heritage with the traditional Latin song "Las Mananitas." This is a collection that folk enthusiasts shouldn't overlook.
