African Guitars is the first release in a new series of anthologies from Lusafrica focusing on modern African music. Over 150 years, guitar has come to play an essential role in modern African music. From north to south, guitarists of the great continent have developed diverse, rich techniques and sounds exclusive to their parts of the world. This album presents solo guitarists Tcheka, Boubacar Traor+-, Wendo Kolosoy, Idrissa Soumaoro and Ali Farka Tour+-, along with others who provide the musical background for star performers. They include Betinho Feij+¦ (who accompanies Bonga), Louis Mhlanga (playing with the Mahotella Queens) and the ex-Kaloum Star, Mamadou MC Camara (who works with Sia Tolno and Mamadou Barry).
