Surma issue debut full-length studio album The Light Within on November 6th, 2020 through Metal Blade Records.

Surma paired Bohemian Metal Rhapsody vocalist Viktorie Surmová with Tyr guitarist / vocalist Heri Joensen, the group forming in 2018. The majority of 2019 was spent writing, arranging and recording the music that would comprise their debut.

Lars Vinther arranged most of the orchestrations, with Joensen also contributing somewhat. Maintaining overall control over proceedings, Surmová and Joensen produced the record themselves in the guitarist's home studio with the drums tracked in Moscow.

The Light Within was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark.
