What If This Road
Guy Cutting
CD Rel Date: 2027-01-15
What if this road is a new album from tenor Guy Cutting and pianist George Ireland, exploring themes of travel, homesickness and belonging through 20th and 21st-century English song. The programme centres on Vaughan Williams' Songs of Travel, framed by a newly commissioned companion piece, In the Beloved Hour by Piers Connor Kennedy, which both draw upon poetry by Robert Louis Stevenson. Along the way, we hear works by Ivor Gurney, Benjamin Britten, Jonathan Dove, Peter Warlock and Herbert Howells, which trace a journey from the familiar English countryside outward into uncertainty and back again. Recorded at Garsington's Lady Stringer Studio in November 2025, the album reflects Cuttting's own experiences of travel as a child chorister and touring performer.
