Angelo Gilardino's early career as an acclaimed guitarist later morphed into that of a prolific composer and multi award-winning musicologist. His works for two guitars are a musical celebration of affectionate encounters and exchanges. In Madrigale e ballo di Pian dei Giullari the guitars can be viewed as two voices pursuing and imitating each other, while in Riviera di Chiaia, Passeggio Reale Naples is evoked as a city of reflections and ghosts. Sonata-Lied No. 6 is one of Gilardino's darkest and most enigmatic compositions. The virtuosic winter of Poema d'inverno for three guitars presents a kaleidoscopic array of inner moods. The programme closes with an elegiac farewell in Gilardino's arrangement of Puccini's Crisantemi.
