As a musician, he reached a dozen placements in the top 40 of the UK singles charts between 1959 and 1962, including No. 1 hits. With his partner Leslie Bricusse, Newley wrote "Feeling Good" (the song was made famous by Nina Simone and was covered by many well-known artists) and in 1964 the title song for the film Goldfinger (alongside John Barry).
