Union
Cuff The Duke
CD
'Union' marks the follow-up companion album to Cuff the Duke's Juno-nominated album, 'Morning Comes.' (The Juno Awards being the Canadian equivalent of the USA's Grammys.) on 'Union,' the band moved away from their usual song structures, rock solos and harmonies by adding more sonic textures. 'Moning Comes' was acoustic-based, 'Union' is electric-based. Instead of trying to find the perfect tone, it was more about exploring interesting sounds. In lieu of traditional guitar solos, Cuff the Duke focused on making the songs more expressive by emphasizing reverb and trem (although there are a few classic-sounding guitar solos on the record, because, hey, who doesn't love a guitar solo?) the two albums relate lyrically and visually. A number of the songs act as a response to the songs from 'Morning Comes.' the two album covers form one image as well. 'Morning Comes' is a collage of images; it's a reflection of the past, as is the music on the record. As we move towards the next album cover there is an image of the four of us. The music on 'Union' is also a reflection of the four of US and the direction we're moving in as a band.
