Over it's 18 tracks the development of Colombian Salsa is plotted: From it's roots in the 1960s when the country was in a relative state of calm, through to the 1970s when the country became engulfed in armed struggle funded by the rising tide of cocaine smuggling. The music reflected the everyday challenges of life but also acted as a form of escape. All the major acts are covered - from Joe Arroyo, with his classic 'Rebellion', Fruko and the Latin Brothers. We also include less well-known sounds from Lisandro Messa and Combo Los Yogas. The whole disc closes on the incendiary Afro-Latin Funk of 'Shakalaode' from 1976 - a UK club classic since the mid 80s.
