INCLUDES FULL BOARD GAME WITH GAME PIECES!!!

Pop on Floor It!!!, the new and second full-length effort from the Texas Gentlemen, and prepare your eardrums to be hit with everything from woozy, brass-fueled Dixieland-style jazz (“Veal Cutlass”), to slinky, chicken-scratch country funk (“Bare Maximum”) to lushly orchestrated pop-soul balladry (“Ain’t Nothin’ New”)—and that’s all in just the first 10 minutes of play time.

While the Gentlemen’s sound is clearly steeped in the classic roots, rock and pop music of the ‘60s and ‘70s, there’s a dreamy (the lilting “Sing Me to Sleep”), spacey (“Skyway Streetcar”) and occasionally progressive (“Dark at the End of the Tunnel”) element to what they do that seems to detach the music from belonging to any particular place and time. Add in elements of funk, soul, country, r&b, southern rock, gospel and essentially any other style that catches their musically omnivorous ears; an expansive and detailed approach to arrangement that sees the songs adorned with all manner of horns, strings and heavenly background vocals (“Hard Road”) and you have a collection of tunes that is more than just a mere album. Rather, Floor It!!! is a rich and righteous ride.

Ray Wylie Hubbard is the secret handshake amongst those who know. Earthy, real, funky, unabashed, his 16 album catalog has been swapped and played on the road for decades. That passion for the man who’s as much a renegade poet as a roadhouse saint brought together an eclectic mix of guests for Co-Starring, his first ever high-profile label release. Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, Pam Tillis, the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, and Ronnie Dunn were just a few who clamored to jam with the wizened icon.

Trinidad [LP]

MP3 Album: $9.99 Download

Trinidad marks the Merge debut of this mighty sextet from Austin, TX. The songs are stripped down yet more intricate than ever before. It's a pop record made by punk rockers-sonically happy but lyrically bitter. Lustful, sassy, and passionate. Touting inspirations as varied as Prince, T. Rex, William Onyeabor, ABBA, Roy Orbison, Shintaro Sakamoto, Francoise Hardy, and Robyn, Sweet Spirit have created an album that pulsates with more LinnDrum and synth than guitar. From the opening riff of "Behold," Sabrina, Andrew, Danny, Josh, Jon, and Jake establish their slightly cynical world of fantasy, hard truths, and all manner of longing. "No Dancing" bemoans the lack of magic in the club, while live favorite "Fingerprints" sets out to "get you away from your lover."

2020 release from the folk singer/songwriter. Produced by Eliza's son, Cisco Ryder, 2020 features songs designed to be audience sing-a-longs in the Pete Seeger tradition of motivational political anthems from the call for unity of "Peace in Our Hearts," to condemnations of President Trump's policies with "Sooner or Later" and "My Heart Aches." Gilkyson also recorded two folk favorites: Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and Pete Seeger's "Where Have All the Flowers Gone." Gilkyson's new song, "Beach Haven," was drawn from a letter written by Woody Guthrie in 1952 directed to Beach Haven Apartment's landlord Fred Trump (POTUS' father) regarding his racist, segregationist renter policies. The song is Guthrie's invitation to Trump to "open your doors" and "rip out the strangling red tape" that keeps the apartment from embracing all races.

With all but three of the 14 tracks coming in under three minutes, A Series of Sneaks is a remarkably economic yet incredibly boisterous album that sounds as exciting and inventive since its original release over twenty years ago.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release. The balance of the album finds Sexton finding inspiration in the more interesting corners of Americana, whether it's the ghostly gospel incantations of the opener/title track, the hypnotic blues shuffle of "What My Baby Don't Know" or the R&B anthemics of "Temptations Call." Elsewhere, Sexton's roots show on the Tex-Mex romancer "Witness," the Vox-organ-flecked "Mess Around With My Mind" and the horn-fueled meditation "The Whole Story." For Sexton, resuming his solo career after a long break feels like both a reboot and culmination of his musical journey. "I just figured it was time for me to reconnect with singing and fronting a band, something I haven't done in a long time," he says. "This is a new start for me, but also kind of the logical extension of everything I've been doing since I was nine years old. The music is brand new, but I'm the same old me."

But put on their debut album Hot Dish and as soon as Sabrina's first line enters, completing the inversion of Sean's first line which has just spun your head around, the collaboration feels inevitable. Inevitable like, "Damn, right. Heart Bones. Guarding the center of vulnerabilities. Why do we have things called chest cavities instead of heart bones?" The anatomical warping of their name makes more sense given how fragile our meaty bodies actually are.

Never Not Together, is a compact, yet wide-ranging collection of songs that revel in the quartet's ability to evoke and reflect grand and intricately wrought emotions, whether through sweeping guitar solos or hushed-whisper vocals. Never Not Together was recorded at the Coach House Studio in Wales' Rockfield Studios, where artists like Echo & the Bunnymen, the Flamin' Groovies, and Dumptruck recorded albums. "I've been seeing the name on albums for so long," says Caws. "It's a working farm, and the founder/owner, Kingsley Ward, would come in and tell us stories when he wasn't farming. I'd walk into town every morning and listen to the sheep talking as I walked by them."That openness to listening to their fans, to each other, to the world has helped inform Nada Surf's legacy as down-to-earth rock stars musicians who can command festival stages around the world while connecting to audience members on a personal level, conscious of the shared humanity every step of the way.

"Nightmare in name only, the inspiration runs white-hot with this one-the wizard's gaze cast over a distant landscape, bits of ash and motes of incinerated earth float in the air, the smell of ozone and fried metal sting the villager's noses... "But hope's bell rings eternal! A flower of beauty is standing up in the sole ray of sun, the clouds are withering away, retreating back to dark cloaks behind crusted-over frost-fractal windows. Darkness cannot usurp the crown, light is king and will eliminate the darkness, chase it out of the unfathomable corners and brush away the webs of evil... remnant factions will always remain but they will be hunted with pure magical riffage."These are the peaks and valleys of the mighty Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band, conceptual in feel and flow, a lovely lilting ride and then, up through the floor boards, a warrior incants into the frothing night a huge band, heavy and tumultuous like a war machine rumbling thru the ash, clearing the way for folks to continue their idyll. Dreamy and lucid keys, strings, drum corps, slippery guitar and buff bass, ripe flutes and breezy vocals. For fans of Embryo, the Mothers, Pink Floyd, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Moody Blues, the Stark Reality, and Placebo. They're from Austin, Texas, but you'd swear it's from 1972 Europa-Mothership. Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin are set to release 'Hasta El Cielo', the band's glorious dub version of their second album 'Con Todo El Mundo'. The full album has been processed anew along with two bonus dubs by renowned Jamaican producer Scientist.

The band's exotic, spacious, psychedelic funk aligns with the dub treatment particularly well. Indeed, keen fans won't find this a surprising release. Dubs of tracks from their first album 'The Universe Smiles Upon' appeared on limited vinyl releases of 'People Everywhere' for Record Store Day 2016 and 'Zionsville' on the BoogieFuturo remix 12". The especially eagle-eared will have caught a dub of 'Two Fish And An Elephant' playing over the credits of the track's celebrated video.

Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald "DJ" Johnson on drums; Khruangbin's sounds are rooted in the deepest waters of music from around the world, infused with classic soul, dub and psychedelia. Their 2015 debut album 'The Universe Smiles Upon You' was heavily influenced by 60's and 70's Thai cassettes the band listened to on their long car journeys to rehearsal in the Texan countryside. 2018's follow up 'Con Todo El Mundo', which received hugely positive critical reactions and radio play around the world, took inspiration not just from South East Asia but similarly underdiscovered funk and soul of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, particularly Iran.

"For us, Dub has always felt like a prayer. Spacious, meditative, able to transport the listener to another realm. The first dub albums we listened to were records mixed by Scientist featuring the music of the Roots Radics. Laura Lee learned to play bass by listening to Scientist Wins the World Cup. His unique mixing style, with the emphasis on space and texture, creates the feeling of frozen time; it was hugely influential to us as a band. To be able to work alongside Scientist, a legend in the history of dub, is an honor. This is our dub version of Con Todo El Mundo."

Black Pumas has announced their highly anticipated debut album set for release on June 21. The band is led by the creative partnership between Grammy Award-winning guitarist / producer Adrian Quesada and 27-year-old songwriter Eric Burton. Burton is a relative newcomer who arrived in Austin in 2015 after busking his way across the country from Los Angeles, while Quesada has a storied reputation for playing in bands like Grupo Fantasma and Brownout.

After the two connected via friends in the Austin scene, they began to collaborate on a new sound that transmutes soul into something idiosyncratically modern. Reminiscent of Ghostface Killah and Motown in equal measure, this original sound ensured that Black Pumas’ weekly residency at C-Boys quickly became “the hottest party in town” (Austin-American Statesman).

Well

Death and Consolation

Vinyl: $23.98 UNAVAILABLE

MP3 Album: $8.99 Download

Death And Consolation is without a doubt a weighty album title. And, Austin, TX trio The Well is among the heaviest heavy psych bands in existence. So when Riding Easy says that there's even more darkness and intensity to the band's third album than previous efforts, take heed. It's a deep sea diving bell of enveloping heaviness and longing. While The Well continue to walk an intriguing line between authentic early '70s doom / heavy psych and frayed weirdness of dark folk-especially with their haunting unison male / female vocals-this new album also adds the stark vibe of post-punk acts like Joy Division and early The Cure. There's also much less jamming, the songs are tight and concise. And, was it mentioned, heavy? The band tuned down a full step to C-standard tuning for this album, which gives the proceedings it's monstrous sound. Sonically, the album picks up where the band-guitarist / vocalist Ian Graham, bassist / vocalist Lisa Alley, and drummer Jason Sullivan-left off with their widely heralded 2016 Pagan Science. The band once again recorded with longtime producer / engineer Chico Jones at Estuary Studio in 2018, who has turned the knobs for all three of their albums-Jones engineered the band's debut album Samsara with producer Mark Deutrom (Melvins, Sunn O)))) in 2013. Samsara, released late September 2014, was ranked the #1 debut album of 2014 by The Obelisk and Pagan Science among the Best of 2016 from the Doom Charts collective. Likewise, the band's intense-some even say "possessed"-live performances have earned them featured slots at Austin's Levitation Fest, as well as tours with Kadavar, All Them Witches, Black Tusk and more.

The music industry sees artists come and go on a regular basis. Plans change, life gets in the way and bands fade away. Occasionally we’re lucky enough to see an important band return from their silence: enter At The Drive In. While At The Drive In was quiet, the members (Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Tony Hajjar and Paul Hinojos) were incredibly busy, selling millions of albums, winning Grammys and putting out a lot of quality music with their other projects (The Mars Volta, Antemasque, Gone Is Gone and many more). After a 15 year break, the band returned to the studio to create the follow-up to 2000’s Relationship of Command. It’s the moment fans have been waiting for since their return to the stage as 2012 Coachella and Lollapalooza headliners…prepare for in·ter a·li·a. Produced by the band’s own Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Rich Costey (Muse, Sigur Rós, Santigold), in·ter a·li·a includes eleven songs that resonate the classic At The Drive In intensity that fans love, while breaking the band’s 15-year drought with something fresh and exciting, that slides right into 2017. Their impressive catalog has earned At The Drive In positions on the Billboard Top 200 chart, spots on various “Greatest Albums” lists, and performances on David Letterman, Jools Holland, Conan O’Brien and more. This album is sure to provide nothing less. The band will be touring throughout 2017 to support this release, as well as perform on late night television. The silence is finally broken…resume transmission.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release. Twenty-eight years ago, pissed-off twelve-year-olds around the universe discovered a new planet, a Black Planet. Public Enemy's aggressive, Benihana beats and incendiary lyrics instilled fear among parents and teachers everywhere, even in the border town of Laredo, Texas, home of the future founders of the Latin-Funk-Soul-Breaks super group, Brownout. The band's sixth full-length album Fear of a Brown Planet is a musical manifesto inspired by Public Enemy's music and revolutionary spirit. Chuck D., the Bomb Squad, Flava Flav and the rest of the P.E. posse couldn't possibly have expected that their golden-era hip hop albums would sow the seeds for countless Public Enemy sleeper cells, one that would emerge nearly three decades later in Austin, Texas. Translating sample-based music to a live band turned out to be more of a challenge than they anticipated. Coming off numerous tours as Brown Sabbath and even a stint backing the late legend Prince, Brownout is arguably the tightest and funkiest band on the road today and they're psyched to bring this revolutionary music to the people. For a band without an overt political agenda, they collectively couldn't resist the opportunity to play this music live, especially now.

Stay Out Late [LP]

Stay Out Late is ultimately, the end result of understanding who we are, and more importantly, who we are not.

This will be our 15th year as a band, and our 5th record overall. In the years preceding the making of this record, we all had to define what it meant for us to be happy making music. There are certain mechanisms and tropes we all fall into as a result. And as hard as we may try to emulate what we consider to be higher art, or rather, classic music; we always end up with a Buxton record.

Sergio couldn't write for almost 2 years after 'Half A Native'. The answers to "why" had run dry. We all saw each other, hung out and everything was like normal. I can't really pinpoint the moment it all made sense again. The question had suddenly changed to "why not" and we were back in the studio making demos. There was a lurking sense that nobody would ever hear these songs, and that lead to a sort of creativity I'm not sure we'd really experienced before. All ideas were on the table, and more importantly they stayed on the table.

There are a handful of truly great masterpieces and the attempt of achieving that is one of the most daunting and exhausting pursuits any artist can take on. In the van we're constantly educating ourselves and finding new and in many cases old points of inspiration. Whether it be Mark Hollis, HC McEntire, Mickey Newbury or rediscovering the genius of Bette Midler, we find ourselves at the mercy of our own limitations of expression. Yet somehow in our most vulnerable project, we're simultaneously the most comfortable in our skin as we've ever been.

The core of this record is about being in it for the long haul, looking back, and being able to accept it all.  We can only hope that the listener can in some way share and make tangible the joy that went into making this record.

2018 release. Secularia is renowned Grammy-nominated folksinger Eliza Gilkyson's 20th album. Gilkyson's music, in the classic folk music tradition, has always offered a vivid reflection of the times we live in. Secularia is a collection of spiritually charged songs that do not fit within the parameters of traditional religious beliefs, challenging us to embrace a more inclusive perspective, to respect all life and to be accountable for our actions in these divisive times. The album features a stunning performance with the internationally acclaimed Tosca String Quartet, (David Byrne, Bob Schneider), vocal cameos by Shawn Colvin and gospel singer Sam Butler, and a duet with her friend, the late Jimmy LaFave, as well as two songs adapted from poetry written by her grandmother, Phoebe Hunter Gilkyson, co-written with Eliza's father, folksinger Terry Gilkyson. Recorded with what she calls a "spare urban folk approach," the album features songs of grief, gratitude and wonder. As always, she's assembled a group of some of Austin's finest players to back her in the studio: Chris Maresh (Eric Johnson), Warren Hood, Kym Warner (The Green Cards), Andre Moran, Mike Hardwick (Jon Dee Graham, Charlie Sexton), Betty Soo and more.

With every album that followed - Under the Table and Above the Sun (2003), Wicked Twisted Road (2005), Bulletproof (2008), Somewhere in Time (2010), the Grammy nominated Good Luck & True Love (2011) and the Grammy winning Long Night Moon (2013) - they've affirmed that commitment, not only in their devotion to essential Americana, but by emulating it's very definition as well. No individual or any ensemble, and certainly no poser or pretender better exemplify what that broad genre is all about than this band called Reckless Kelly. Nowhere is that more evident that on the group's new album Sunset Motel, an effort that effectively sums up their strengths while marking a new milestone as well. Ultimately, by bringing all of her influences together with Froom's help, Edmonson's own unmistakable sound comes into fine focus on The Big Picture." - All Music

’Hot Thoughts’, Spoon’s 9th album, is the bravest, most sonically inventive work of their career, though keep in mind, Britt Daniel’s already overseen a number of other reincarnations. With all due respect to earlier efforts that have made the quintet both critically acclaimed and a commercial contender, preconceptions about this band are about to be obliterated. That’s not to say ‘Hot Thoughts’ doesn’t have a requisite supply of infectious earworms but there’s a lyrical bent that’s as carnal as it’s crafty, and a newfound sense of sonic exploration that results in the genre-smasher Spoon have flirted with in the past but not fully consummated. Produced by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, Weezer, MGMT) and back with Matador (third time’s the charm) helps position Spoon to mount the highest highs of their already spectacular career. We are overjoyed to be back in the Spoon business and in time for Daniel’s spot in the pantheon of rock’s genius songwriters was well established a ways back — with the crackling, incandescent, multi-dimensional backdrop conjured on ‘Hot Thoughts’, the lines between accessible and experimental become non-factors for once and all. It’s pop as high art, delivered with total confidence and focus.
